It’s official: the cast for Star Wars: Episode VII will include Ford, Hamill, Fisher, Serkis, Gleeson and more!

After over a year of speculation, we finally have the biggest movie news there’s been for some years. We now have the official cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. There’s been wild rumours: Gary Oldman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor to name but a few. We can confirm that working with the directing talent of JJ Abrams (Star Trek Into Darkness, Lost, Super 8) are the original’s Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Solo), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Kenny Baker (R2D2) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) as well as series newcomers Max Von Sydow, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Andy Serkis.

Star Wars Episode VII Casting Announcment

As the London filming begins, we’ll give a quick guide to the new cast, who’s roles are still unclear. First off, there’s the male a female leads. Relatively unknown British actress Daisy Ridley (star of episodes of Mr Selfridge, Toast of London, Youngers and Silent Witness) will most likely be the daughter of Han and Leia, beating off Lupita Nyong’o and Saoirse Ronan, while John Boyega (Imperial Dreams, Attack the Block) takes the lead from the jaws of Jesse Plemons and Ray Fisher. We’re not sure what affect they’ll have on the plot constructed by Abrams, Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Ms Sunshine, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan.

Our villain will come in the form of Adam Driver (Frances Ha, Lincoln, Tracks) but we’ve now clue about the roles of our other stars. Guatemala born and Golden Globe nominated Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Drive, Robin Hood) has been added alongside former Doctor Doom favourite Domhnall Gleeson (Love Actually, Dredd, True Grit) and two time Oscar nominee Max Von Sydow (The Excorcist, Shutter Island, Minority Report). The most exciting addition however is Andy Serkis, another Golden Globe nominee who made his name as The Master of Mo-Cap.

He’s done great character performances in that format in the likes of The Lord of the Rings, The Adventures of Tintin, The Hobbit, King Kong and Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Caesar). We’re still not sure if he’ll slip back into the spotted licra suit or if he’ll play a live action character, which he’s done on numerous occasions. Whatever exciting developments there are, you can be sure that Tuorhoth Movies will, with sharp hyperventilating breaths, be right on the scene to report it for you.
